The new postal rate increases take effect on January 22, 2017. The new prices include a two-cent increase to 49 cents for First-Class Mail.
The January price change does not include any price change for Postcards, for letters being mailed to international destinations, or for letters that are over 1 ounce. As of now, it is unclear if the standard or non-profit postal rates will increase.

Even though postage is increasing, there are many things you can do to lower your mailing costs and improve your open rates.
Increase Mail Effectiveness
Make sure it arrives. Cleanup your mailing list by removing bad addresses and resolving addresses that are not fully automated. Most mail houses can check your list against the postal database to make sure your addresses are updated. They can also provide you with a list of addresses that are not fully automated (in your current mailing list).
Make sure it gets opened. To send a mailing and have it go in the recycle bin does not help you. Using color, images and personalization on your mailing piece will help your piece get opened. A small increase in printing costs can increase your open rate substantially. It is about getting results, which requires people to open your piece.
Make sure it is optimized. Check with your printing and mailing partner to make sure the piece you are designing conforms to the postal regulations. A simple call or email can save you many wasted hours and can also help you design an effective mailer.
Lower Mailing Costs
Non-Profit postage rate. You don’t need to purchase indicia; you can use the indicia at your mail house. Just complete a form with the post office and you can use someone else’s indicia and save money.
An automated pre-sorted list. This can save you $0.05 to $0.20 for each address depending upon your mailing. We can help you get the best automated rate possible. We have the software and the expertise that can help you save money on your next mailing.
QR Codes and landing pages. Consider using QR codes or website landing pages to place some of your content online. This approach allows you to reduce the size of your direct mail piece and drive users to your website. This also allows you to control your postage costs by keeping your piece under 1 oz.
